Biography
Owl City is an American electronica musical project. The specific style of the band has been variously defined as indietronica, post-emo, new urban, and new wave. Owl City, confusingly, is both a solo act and a band - it consists of Adam Young and he refers to his backing band plus himself as "Owl City". The origin of the name Owl City is debated, as Adam gives different explanations each time he is asked - one popular theory is Owl City was named after Adam's hometown Owatonna, Minnesota. Young started out making music in his parents' basement, which he claims is a result of his insomnia.
Young's influences are disco and European electronic music.. "Fireflies" topped the US and Canadian charts and became the most-downloaded song on iTunes in the US, and the album Ocean Eyes reached the top ten on the US album charts and topped the US electronic charts.
